A man and woman were arrested Tuesday in connection with theft of metal last month at a local business.

Statesboro police officers responded July 18 to Logan Hagan Welding Supply on North Zetterower Avenue in reference to metal crates being stolen, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

As part of the investigation, officers "contacted local recycling centers about the theft with descriptions of the items and a possible vehicle description," he said.

After an monthlong investigation, Detective Kevin Wadley arrested Elgie Raymond, 58, of Pine Street, and Annie Florence, 49, of Raymond Street, and charged both with theft by receiving stolen property. The metal crates were returned to Logan Hagan Welding Supply, Turner said.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Wadley at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. Anonymous tips may be submitted online at www.tipsoft.com or by sending a text message beginning with "TIPSSPD" to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential, Turner said.
