Mr. and Mrs. Roland Starling

Roland and Virginia Starling will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary with a drop-in reception to be held on Saturday, July 9th,  from 3 until 5 p.m. in the Lawrence Baptist Church fellowship hall. Mr. Starling was born in Bryan County on February 7, 1918. He is currently 93 years old. His parents were Sammie William Starling and Elizabeth Purvis Starling. Virginia Kicklighter was born on April 6th and she is currently 91 years old. Her parents were Thomas Watson Kicklighter and Lessie Latzak Kicklighter. Roland and Virginia were married on July 11th, 1936, at the home of the Reverend W.M. Kitchens in Statesboro, Ga. They have lived in Bulloch County most of their married life, with the exception of a few early years of their marriage when they lived in Chatham County. Mr. Starling served in the Navy from 1943-1944. Once out of the Navy, the couple settled in Bulloch County, where he established Starling Plumbing and Electrical, a business which is still prospering under ownership of his son, Mickey. Virginia has always been a homemaker as well as assisting with the bookkeeping for the business.
Roland and Virginia settled on land in the 1940s that Virginia's grandfather, Luke Latzak, purchased in the 1800s after leaving Poland and coming to America. The farm is located in the Bay District of Bulloch County. Five generations have enjoyed and are continuing to enjoy this family farm where Virginia and Roland still reside.
The Starlings attend Lawrence Baptist Church in Bryan County, where Roland has attended all his life and Virginia joined in 1937, a year after they married. Roland has been an usher throughout the years and has played an important part in building projects that the church has carried out through the years. He is also an active member of the Brotherhood. Virginia was president of the WMU for many years and continues to be an active member. She has taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir in the past years. They have been involved in community projects as well as school projects during the years their children were in school.
One of Roland's and Virginia's greatest accomplishments, they will tell you, is their family. They have three children, Ronald and Jannel Starling of Destin, Florida, Mickey and Ginny Starling of Brooklet and Gina and Pete Wall of Sylvania, Ga.. They have seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Roland and Virginia love each other, their family and friends. They show this love in their actions each and every day. They have been an inspiration and blessing to so many. When asked, Virginia will tell you the secret to a long and happy marriage is putting the Lord first in your life.
Their children invite all friends and relatives to join them in celebrating their parents' 75th anniversary. No gifts, please. Your presence will be their gift.
