Mrs. Ethel Smith of Portal, Georgia, announces the engagement of her daughter, Kellie Michele Smith of Statesboro, Ga., to Darrell Matthew Mixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Mixon.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed Slocum and is the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Allen McCumbers and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Slocum. Kellie is a 2005 graduate of Portal Middle/High School and is a 2011 Georgia Southern University graduate, with a Bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education. She is currently a substitute teacher for the Bulloch County Board of Education.
    The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Jeannette Lee and the late Rufus Lee and Mrs. Martha Mixon and the late Durman Mixon. He is the great-grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. StanMore Sparks and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lee and the late Mr. and Mrs. Doc Mixon and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sidney Davis Sr. Matthew is a 2002 graduate of Portal Middle/High School and is a 2005 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College, with a degree in Electrical Construction. He is employed with UPS.
    The couple has planned to wed on April 7, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the Temple Hill Baptist Church in Statesboro, Ga.
