    Mr. and Mrs. Ronald C. Widner of Toccoa, Ga., announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Phillips Widner of Statesboro, to John Adam Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Morrow Jr.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lane Johnston and the late Mr. and Mrs. S.T. “Dick” Widner of Donalsonville, Ga. Amanda is a 2001 graduate of Screven County High School and attended Ogeechee Tech and Brown College of Court Reporting. She is employed with Bulloch Finance Co. in Statesboro.
    The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Bragg of Statesboro and the late Jim L. Thompson of Statesboro and the late Thelma Martin Thompson of Statesboro. He attended Statesboro High School and is employed by JCB in Pooler, Ga.
    The couple has planned to wed on October 18, 2008, at 5 p.m. at the Statesboro First United Methodist Church.
