Virginia Anne Franklin and Bill Waters were united in marriage on August 18, 2007, at four o’clock p.m. The double ring ceremony took place at the Hideaway, the home of the bride, on Savannah Avenue. Judge Henry Scott Allen of Augusta officiated. Dr. Delma Eugene Presley of Statesboro was the lay liturgist.
The bride’s home was decorated to resemble that of her parents’ wedding day. Old-fashioned garlands of magnolia, ivy and antique satin bows lined the walkway that welcomed guests into the home. Family and friends were seated in the tradition of the bride’s parents in front of the living room mantle, where the bridal party gathered. White fluted wicker baskets of gladiola, magnolia, ivy, Fuji mums and Anna roses stood on each side. Matching garlands were placed on the staircase, from which the bride and her attendants descended.
The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Franklin Jr. of Statesboro. Her grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Franklin of Statesboro and Mr. and Mrs. K. Solomon Youmans of Metter.
The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Wilbur Waters of Statesboro. His grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. George Russell Waters and Mr. and Mrs. Noah Hampton Hill, all of Bulloch County.
Cortes Collins served as maid of honor. She wore a sleeveless tan chiffon gown with hand-cut beads on the front and back bodice. Sylvia Brunson Harville served as matron of honor. She wore an ivory crepe jacketed gown with gold accents. Both attendants carried bouquets of white roses surrounded by Camellia leaves and tied with pearls and braided satin ribbon.
Virginia Anne was given in marriage by Richard L. Smith, longtime friend and neighbor, on behalf of the Franklin family. She wore a pewter silk jacketed gown with Austrian beads around the neckline of the gown and the jacket. She carried a cascade bouquet of white bridal roses entwined with ivy, Camellia leaves and satin streamers tied with love knots.
Irvin Alexander Brannen Jr., brother-in-law of the groom, served as best man. Jack W. Slaton Jr. was Mr. Water’s groomsman. Ushers were Frank Cleveland Parker III and Dr. Larry G. Hubbard.
Pamela Seagraves Radford was the pianist and performed a prelude of classical music. She also provided the nuptial music and was accompanied by Dr. William Albert Schmid, trumpeter. Paul McClelland of St. Mary’s, Ga., was the soloist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Hideaway. Ellen Lanier cut the bride’s cake. Kathleen Mullins Olson, cousin of the groom, cut the groom’s cake. Music entertainment was provided by Paul McClelland.
The couple will honeymoon in Ireland and make their home on Savannah Avenue in Statesboro.
