Statesboro STEAM: Robert Williamson

Robert Williamson, Statesboro STEAM’s 2017 valedictorian, plans to become a research scientist after achieving a doctorate in physics.

He said he appreciates the past six years he spent at the Statesboro STEAM Academy, having entered the school in sixth grade because of a friend’s recommendation. “I quickly grew to enjoy the school,” he said.

The experience taught him several life lessons, he said.

“I have learned multiple things during my time at STEAM, but probably the most important lesson I have learned is to make the most of my time at school.” It is a practice he suggests other students make a habit in order to get the most out of their education.

“I enjoyed being at school, the classes and the people,” he said. “These all are what led to me getting high grades and being valedictorian.”

Robert is the son of Roy and Robbie Williamson. He has two siblings — brother Roy Williamson Jr. and sister Meghan Tew.

“I don't have many hobbies, but one that comes to mind is playing video games,” he said.

As a graduating senior, he has one main piece of advice for people still in school.

“Participate in dual enrollment through the Move on When Ready (MOWR) program. This program allows people to take college classes while still in high school while not having to pay the tuition for the college, or the books,” he said.
