Students participate in coloring contest

Sea Island Bank and Statesboro-Bulloch County Park and Recreation Department are excited to announce the winners of the 2011 Firecracker Fest: “America the Colorful” coloring contest. Three local community members judged over 600 entries on May 24 to select this year’s winners.
    Three drawings were chosen for first, second and third place overall. Entries were also chosen as winners from each elementary school level (K-5), as well as one for most creative, most colorful and most patriotic.
    Lexie Anderson, a fifth grader from Trinity Christian, won first place overall, and her work has been chosen to be used as the official artwork for Firecracker Fest. Second place winner is Emily Brown, a fifth grader from Sallie Z. Elementary, and third place winner is Shirling Xu, a third grader from Sallie Z. Elementary.
    In each grade level’s competition, the winners included: Kaylee Haas, a kindergartener from Stilson Elementary; Trinity Myers, a first grader from Julia P. Bryant Elementary; Lydia Campbell, a second grader from Trinity Christian; Willy Scott, a third grader from Stilson Elementary; Somin Lee, a fourth grader from Julia P. Bryant Elementary; and Emma Hunter, a fifth grader from Julia P. Bryant Elementary.
    The most colorful winner is Sabrina Gale, a third grader from Sallie Z. Elementary. Most creative winner is Somin Lee, a fourth grader also from Sallie Z. Elementary. Most patriotic goes to Willy Scott, a third grader from Stilson Elementary.
    All of the winning elementary school students will receive prizes sponsored by Sea Island Bank and SBCPRD. First place overall wins $100, four daily passes to Splash in the Boro, a Sea Island Bank T-shirt, and their design will be on the event T-shirt. The second place overall wins $50, a daily pass to Splash in the Boro and a Sea Island Bank T-shirt, while third place wins $25, a daily pass to Splash in the Boro and a Sea Island Bank T-shirt.
    Each grade level winners, as well as most creative, most colorful and most patriotic, will receive a Sea Island Bank/Splash in the Boro goody bag.
    The winners will be recognized at the Firecracker Fest at Mill Creek Park around 9 p.m. The Firecracker Fest, sponsored by Sea Island Bank, will be held on Monday, July 4, from 4 to11 p.m. There will be music, entertainment, games and competitions —and don’t forget the fireworks.
