The Averitt Center has created an impactful class where young children can learn many useful skills before starting school.
Instructor Michelle NeSmith teaches the Little Artists program five times a week with hopes to help children learn and grow. With this unique class being offered, children will be introduced to new and exciting activities every day.
All meetings take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the main Averitt Center building Monday through Friday.
“I want them to be more social, be able to follow directions, and interact with other children, because to me that is the most important part,” said NeSmith.
Art education plays many different roles for people throughout their life. These kids will learn how to improve social skills, follow rules, be creative and understand teamwork, along with many other skills.
“We use this time for the children to interact with each other and play with each other. We do table time where we come in and do activities and then we have group time where we may read a story or sing some songs,” added NeSmith.
"I wanted a place my child could engage socially, as well as participate in learning opportunities that she doesn't always get at home," said Ashley Bolden. "Charlee is 3 and has been at home with me since day one, so I didn’t want to send her for a full day just yet, but knew she needed to have some experiences to prepare for Pre-K. I love the half day morning time for this class. I was adamant about finding a half day program where her time would be well spent creatively rather than a daycare program."
