Coughing fits could be connected to meds

DEAR DR. GOTT: I cough at night, during the day, in church, at the movies, everywhere! I always seem to have to leave these functions half the way through. What can I do? I have had this cough for years. I have had about every kind of test for this cough.
It is a dry cough most of the time. Sometimes it is loose. My doctor put me on cough medicine so I can get some sleep at night. Because I also have high blood pressure (which I take Vasotec for), I can't be on this cough medicine for long.
I would appreciate any suggestions you have.
DEAR READER: I assume that your doctor has, as you stated, tested you thoroughly.
I would blame your blood pressure medicine. ACE inhibitors (such as Vasotec) are notorious as causes of chronic cough. I urge you to speak to your family physician about changing your blood-pressure meds. I bet your cough will disappear within a week or two after stopping the ACE inhibitor.

DEAR DR. GOTT: I am nearing 80 years of age and had a strange occurrence a few weeks ago. I came to a stop sign while driving and, for perhaps a few seconds, my vision got blurry and I didn't know where I was, and then it was over. Perhaps you can tell me what you think happened.
DEAR READER: You appear to have suffered a temporary neurological event that could reflect any one of several problems, such as a temporary stroke, low blood pressure, a cardiac irregularity and others. You should be checked by your primary care physician.     Don't delay. If you have another attack while driving, the results could be catastrophic.

DEAR DR. GOTT: How much is your book "No House Calls"?  Have you published any more books?
DEAR READER: "No House Calls," published in the mid-1980s by Simon and Schuster, is out of print.  You may be able to find a copy in your public library or online at such Web sites as www.amazon.com or www.ebay.com.  I have also written "Windows of 'Sconset" (a picture book), "Live Longer, Live Better," "Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet" and "Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Cook Book.
