Bluegrass and gospel show at Mossy Oak Park

    A record crowd is expected to attend the big five-day event bluegrass and gospel music festival at Mossy Oak Music Park in Guyton, October 18-22.
    Headlining the program are nine of the biggest names currently touring on the bluegrass and gospel music circuit.
    Entertainers who will appear include: “The First Family of Gospel Music,” The Lewis Family, 3rd Generation, Eddie & Martha Adcock, J. Max McKee, Kindred Spirit, Mike Jones & Young At Heart, Al Wood & Smokey Ridge, Palmetto Bluegrass and more! Effingham’s own Lonesome Whistle Band will not only host the festival but will be performing, as well.
    Mossy Oak Music Park is a 34-acre park designed for special music presentations and similar events. It has a 600-seat pavilion and outdoor seating for an additional 1,200 surrounding the stage. All that is needed is a lawn chair and an appetite for some great foot patting, hand-clapping bluegrass and gospel music. Follow the signs to the Old Louisville Road off of Highway 119, two miles south of Guyton.
    The festival site, Mossy Oak, has more than 500 sites with hookups and two dump stations to accommodate you. The park also has a full kitchen, snack shack, playground, 1,000-square-foot meeting house and museum, bath house, vendors, bathrooms at the stage, handicap parking and transportation, an indoor bargain barn/flea market, and many other amenities to make your family’s visit a pleasurable one. Golf carts and bicycle are also welcome. Camping hookups (electricity and water) are $10 per night; tent camping is $5 per night.
    A special cover dish supper at 6 p.m. on Wednesday will kick off the five-day festival. An “Open Stage” will follow the supper. Thursday’s program will run from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Kindred Spirit will be featured on Sunday morning.
    Five-day festival tickets are $35; children ages 12-15 are half price; under age 12 are free. Daily tickets are $15.
