Well folks, it looks as though summer is upon us.
For most, that’s a pretty exciting notion. School’s out, vacations are scheduled and pools are filled.
But for me and my Sports Staff, the summer means one thing — lots of nothing.
As soon as the prep baseball and track and field seasons end, there’s really not much to do until August. I can’t count the times I’ve been asked, “Yeah, whatta you guys do up there during the summer?”
So today I’d like to introduce a little something we came up with to keep ourselves busy over these next few months and to keep our readers awake (I’m looking at you Luke Martin). After all, there’s still 80 days until prep football and 89 days until kickoff at Paulson. Mmm... football season.
We’ll call it the summer check up series, and it’s intended to catch up with some of our favorite, former area athletes who have gone on to continue to do great things in college and the pros.
Whatever happened to that kid who used to pitch for Portal? Aren’t there a few Eagles in the pros? Didn’t a former soccer stand out just become a head coach somewhere? We’ve asked the same questions you have and it’s our job to find the answers and pass them on to you.
We can’t promise we’ll get to everybody, but we have a big ol’ list of names up here on the white board that we’ll try to whittle down as much as possible. If you have a suggestion of someone you’d like for us to find out where they’ve gone and what they’re up to, shoot us an email or give us a call. We’ll try our best.
