Prep sports? Yeah, weve got that

The anticipation began building two weeks ago when football practice started at schools all around our area.
Will Statesboro become dominant once again?
Will Southeast Bulloch continue building in the right direction?
Will Portal get back to the playoffs after a year out?
Will Bulloch Academy be able to replace its lost starters on offense?
There are similar questions at Screven County, in Claxton and at Metter. Now, less than two weeks before the kickoff of the first games, the eagerness for the season to get going will build with each day — for the players and the fans.
Admit it: You want the games to start today!
At the Statesboro Herald, we feel it, too. So, let me tell you about a couple of things we’ve been working on in the off season that will bring high school sports to you like never before. Want to watch your favorite Bulloch school play from the comfort of your own home? (I thought so. More on that later ...)
We will, of course, continue the best coverage of local high school sports in the pages of the Herald. Not just football, but all high school sports.
We started the Prep Sports Blitz show and video game highlights last season on statesboroherald.com and senior video producer Vince Johnson promises even more exciting coverage this season.
But for the 2008 season, statesboroherald.com will bring you more — lots more. Launching in the next week will be a Web site dedicated to high school sports. It’s called “Prep Sports Central” and will be part of statesboroherald.com.
On the home page of Prep Sports Central you will find all the top stories in high school sports. But you also will find a link to home pages for every high school in our coverage area.
You’re a Statesboro High fan? Click on the Statesboro link and go to Blue Devils central.
Click on Southeast Bulloch and you’ll be up to your neck in Yellow Jackets.
Panther fans will feel at home on the Portal site and all Gators are welcome on the Bulloch Academy page.
While these sites will be filled with stories, photos and videos from the Statesboro Herald staff, the key to the success of these sites is you. We need you. Specifically, we need your photos, your thoughts and your help.
If you went to a softball game and got some photos, please upload them. If you shot some photos in the stands of any game — football, softball, whatever — put them on your school’s home page. The process is simple and won’t take long. If you have a digital camera, you’re an official photographer for Prep Sports Central.
And we want to read what you have to say.
You think Portal’s going to give ECI all it can handle? Than start a blog on the Portal home page.
You think Statesboro will stomp Thomson? Then start a blog on the Statesboro home page.
You think Southeast Bulloch will crush Vidalia? Then start a blog on the SEB home page.
Whatever your thoughts, share them on a Web site that has fans as passionate as you are. Again, the process to register and start a blog is very simple.
Read our coverage on Prep Sports Central and then become part of it with your own photos and blogs. It’s fun. I guarantee it.
Now, back to the part of watching games from your own home. High school sports fans are a special breed. I know short of a monsoon or hurricane, you’re going to watch your Devils, Panthers, Jackets or Gators in person to show your support. But even the best of fans sometimes can’t make it to a game.
So, beginning with the August 29 game at Womack Field between Statesboro and Josey, statesboroherald.com will live stream a schedule of games throughout the season.
That’s right, you’ll be able to watch certain games on your computer at home, at work or any laptop with an Internet connection. And the game will be live. Also, we’ll put the whole game up later on statesboroherald.com so you can watch it when you want to.
The schedule of streaming games is not set yet, but we’ll let you know.
It’s going to be a great season at all area schools. I know Prep Sports Central will make it easier and more fun to follow your favorite teams. Check it out later this week.
And then get prepared for live football.
As I said, it’s going to be a great season.
