SHS seeking Hall of Fame nominations
Statesboro

Athletic legends from Statesboro’s past have a chance to be remembered forever as nominations for the Statesboro Athletic Hall of Fame are currently being accepted.
Any person who is an alumnus of either Statesboro High, William James High, or Marvin Pittman High and has been so for at least 15 years is eligible for hall of fame consideration.
“We want to emphasize the importance of the nomination process,” said hall of fame committee member Kathy Tucker. “We only have inductions once every three years, so we want everyone to be aware that the nominations and selections are going on this year.”
Though primarily focusing on athletic achievements, there are many areas that are considered by the selection committee. Awards, records, college achievements and post graduation leadership are all areas that are considered for nominees striving to become a member of the most elite athletic fraternity in town.
Beyond the momentary rush of being selected, Tucker emphasized the nostalgic side of past inductees being honored.
“It’s a great moment for (inductees). Since there is such a big gap between when your playing career ends and when you can be nominated, it’s really special for the hall of fame members to stand there and realize how much they are appreciated and how everyone still remembers their accomplishments.”
Members of the 2011 hall of fame class will be formally acknowledged at a banquet at Statesboro High November 2.
For those wishing to nominate a former athlete for consideration, forms can be downloaded from the Statesboro High web site —  www.shs.bulloch.k12.ga.us. Any further questions can be directed to Tucker at kathybtucker@gmail.com.
The deadline for turning in nominations is September 15.
