Local teams light up basketball court

Bulloch Academy basketball sweeps

Playing one state over didn't deter the Bulloch Academy Gators in the slightest as both the boys and girls teams notched victories over Hilton Head Christian Saturday evening.

The boys claimed a 50-39 win while the girls prevailed by a 66-57 margin.

Ashley Burke set a career high with 25 points and fell just one rebound and one assist shy of recording a triple-double.

Claxton sweeps ECI

Playing in a pair of Region 3-A crossover contests, the Claxton boys and girls both notched wins over Emanuel County Institute Saturday in Twin City.

Jazmine Price scored 22 points and Brianna Grigga knocked down the game-winner for the Lady Tigers (6-2) in a rematch of last season's Class A state quarterfinal matchup.

On the boys side, there was a bit more breathing room as Claxton downed the Bulldogs by a count of 64-57.

Cornelius Taylor led the way with 27 points and Darvis Small was right behind, netting 20 of his own.

With the win, the Claxton boys improved to 5-1 this season.

SEB tops Screven

Another prep basketball sweep rounded out Saturday's action as Southeast Bulloch took a pair of victories from Screven County in Sylvania.

Destiny Burke led the Lady Yellow Jackets to their second win of the season with 11 points in a 34-29 victory over the Lady Gamecocks just one night afet the SEB girls suffered a biting Region 1-AAA loss against Tattnall County.

The SEB boys won in a romp over Screven, coasting to a 79-44 win in a repeat performance of their preseason scrimmage against the Gamecocks last month.

Three Yellow Jackets scored in double-digits, led by Markel Ming's 18-point performance and followed by Brandon Tremble (12) and Sheldon Hendrix (11).
