Local Roundup: Lady Gators win region opener

    BELLVILLE — Pinewood Christian's Jessie Knaus intentionally missed a free throw with 1.3 seconds remaining to give PCA a chance at the game-tying shot, but Bulloch Academy held on for a 49-47 win on Tuesday on the road.
    The Gators (18-1, 1-0 Region 1-IAAA) were led by Pate Lomax, who scored 21 points, and Chelsea Oglesby who added 17.
    The Gators return home on Friday to face Westminster at 6 p.m.

SEB falls on the road
    SAVANNAH — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets ran out of steam on Tuesday on the road in a 67-52 loss at Johnson High School.
    Sheldon Hendrix had a big night for SEB, netting 25 points.
    The Jackets return home to face Claxton on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Claxton holds off Lady War Eagles
    MILLEN — The Claxton Lady Tigers (13-3, 3-1 Region 3A-A) held off a third-quarter rally and defeated Jenkins County 62-57 on the road Tuesday.
    The Tigers led 32-19 at halftime, but Jenkins closed the gap to 44-40 after a 21-point third.
    Amber Branch led the Eagles with 17 points. Claxton was led by Keri Brown's double-double (24 points, 14 rebounds) and Devonna Brewton's 21 points.
    Claxton faces region rival Portal at home on Friday at 6 p.m.

In the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation
Department Minor Boys league, the Trailblazers recently beat the Knicks 41-25 and the Thunder won their game against the Nets 32-20.
    The Celtics beat the 76ers 43-12 and the Spurs won their game against the Clippers 34-27.
    The Warriors won a highly contested match against the Rockets 21-18 and the Mavericks beat the Magic with a tight score of 22-21.
    The Lakers beat the Pacers 40-22 in the final Minor Boys game.
    In the Midget Boys league, the Warriors narrowly escaped the Bulls 27-25 and the Rockets beat the Thunder 27-22.
    In the final Midget Boys match up the Heat beat the
Celtics 24 to 8.

Free GSU hoops for 'B' students
    Georgia Southern University is rewarding all Bulloch County students with a "B" average or better free admission to upcoming games on Thursday and Saturday. The GSU men face Furman on Thursday at 7 p.m., in Hanner Fieldhouse, and the women face Davidson on Saturday at 5 p.m.
    Free admission will be granted with a copy or a photo of the students' report card.
