Gators host 1st round of state

    The Bulloch Academy boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be able to stay home for the first round, and possibly second, of the GISA Class AAA basketball tournaments this week.
    By virtue of winning the region tournaments last Friday, both BA squads earned the top seeds in the region will host first-round playoff games Tuesday and Wednesday against the fourth-place teams from Region 3.
    Today, the Lady Gators (24-4) host Deerfield-Windsor (13-11) at 7 p.m. The squads have met once this season with Bulloch taking a 60-37 victory over the Albany squad in early December.
    The first game of the day tips off at 5:30 p.m. and features Trinity Christian of Sharpsburg (17-5 and second seed from Region 1) against Westminster of Augusta (18-6 and third seed from Region 4).
    On Wednesday, the Bulloch boys (19-8) take on Tiftarea Academy (16-8) from Chula, Ga. The opening game at 5:30 p.m. is Loganville Christian (19-3 and second seed from Region 1) against Augusta Prep (9-10 and third seed from Region 4).
    If the Gators and/or Lady Gators win, they will also host the second round on Friday (girls) and Saturday (boys) against two other winners.
    Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students. GISA, GAOA and media passes are the only ones which will be honored at the pass gate.
