Any basketball team reaching the Final Four of a state tournament is a special one. For the former greats of Bulloch Academy, tonight will be a night to remember their accomplishments.
Bulloch Academy will host and recognize all of the schools' basketball Final Four teams with a reunion during the Gators' game agains Mt. de Sales.
The game time for the girls is 4:30 p.m. with the boys game to begin at approximately 6 p.m.
In the 40-year history of Bulloch Academy, seven teams have made it to the Final Four. Girls teams reached the semifinals in 1977-78, 78-79, 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2012-13. Bulloch sent its boys teams teams to the Final Four in 1982-83 and 2009-10.
Bulloch Academy athletic director and head boys basketball coach Chandler Dennard is happy to be hosting the alumni back to the BA gym, saying "It's an honor to recognize the players of these great teams. Bulloch Academy has a rich tradition of athletic excellence which dates back to the late 1970's and these seven teams exemplify that excellence."
The teams will be recognized at halftime of the Bulloch vs Mt. De Sales Academy game. At 5:30 p.m., a reception will be held in the BA cafeteria for the players of those teams.
Head girls basketball coach Paul Webb, who was the coach for three of the seven teams is also excited to see former players.
"I am thrilled that the school decided to recognize these teams," Webb said. "It will rekindle a lot of great memories as many former players and coaches have committed to return to be recognized."
Former athletic directors Charles Webb and Clint Morgan, as well as all of the Final Four team coaches — Willard Hane (1977-78), Jack Webb (1978-79, 1982-83), Chandler Dennard (2009-2010) and Paul Webb (2008-09, 2009-10, 2012-13) — will be in attendance.
Webb went on to say that "I appreciate the help of many former players and parents as well as current parents who have jumped on board to help with this event. My hope is that not only the players but parents of those players will attend to recognize these Final Four participants."
