Athlete of the Week: SEB sophomore steps up
Carter

A youth movement is underway at Southeast Bulloch, and while sophomore quarterback Keagan Carter may have to wait his turn to get to the top of the depth chart, he made his playing time in the preseason count.
On Carter’s first play from under center in the Yellow Jackets’ scrimmage against Bryan County last week, he took a three-step drop and fired a deep ball down the right sideline. Matthew McBride hauled in the pass 30 yards downfield and raced for a 70-yard touchdown strike.
“I was excited to get the chance to put the ball in the air,” said Carter. “I knew that was the play call before we took the field. I just put it up there and (McBride) went up and got it.”
Carter — who will see most of his playing time in the SEB defensive secondary this season — made things look easy, which is exactly what coach Pat Collins is hoping for out of the Jackets’ large sophomore class.
“We had a lot of success over the past few years,” said Carter. “Since middle school, my team hasn’t lost a game at (SEB’s Fred Shaver Field). We want to keep things that way.”
