For nearly the entirety of her tenure at Claxton, Polly Murray has been the beginning and end of all discussions on Lady Tiger basketball. Now in her senior season, Murray continues to be a standout player and has her team on the rise as well.
This season has proven to be quite the swan song for Claxton’s senior guard. In addition to notching her 1,000th career point in December, Murray has chalked up double-doubles in half of her team’s games.
That’s pretty decent for a girl that was facing a serious injury last season.
“We were all scared when Polly hurt her knee,” Claxton coach Laura Aziz said. “But I knew that she would fight hard to get back. Once she proved to herself that (the knee) was fine, she’s been going at 100 percent.”
Having overcome adversity, Murray has her sights set on the task at hand. With a 61-53 win over Savannah Christian on Tuesday, the Tigers improved to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in Region 3-A.
Murray’s efforts have made Claxton a lock for a solid seed in the region tournament, where one more win will get Claxton into the state playoffs.
