PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla

Fans at TPC Sawgrass witnessed some wild highs and lows but eventually had to head home early as play was suspended Friday at around 4:30 p.m. due to inclement weather.

South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout currently leads the way, shooting eight-under overall through 14 holes after having started the day four-under. He is tied with Adam Svensson of Canada at seven-under overall through 11 holes.

Among the lows, current world number one Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw due to a stomach illness prior to round two getting underway.

Some of the news on the course would tune the stomach as well as The Players first timer Chad Ramey was actually in the lead at nine-under as he walked up to the infamous 17th hole. Ramey proceeded to quadruple bogey the island green. The seven on the par-3 dropped him back to five-under overall.

A couple of Aussies fared well in their time on the course today. Min Woo Lee fired a 68 in his opening round and is currently tied for third at six-under through 15 holes. Fellow countryman Jason Day was actually able to complete his round Friday with a 70. Day also shot 70 on Thursday and is tied for eighth at four-under.

Collin Morikawa and another first-timer at The Players, Ben Griffin are tied at six-under. Other notables include Scottie Scheffler who is currently five-under and will have a 17-foot eagle putt on the par-5 11th hole when play resumes Saturday.

The projected cut line was at 2-over at the time of the suspension. The list of notable golfers in jeopardy of missing the cut include Tony Finau, Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas who are all two-over. Matt Fitzpatrick is at three-over and Rory McIlroy has his work cut out for him as he is at six-over.

Play is set to resume at 7 a.m. ET Saturday. The 2022 Players had a Monday finish but good news is on the horizon as the weekend forecast calls for temperatures in the low-70s on Saturday and near 80 on Sunday, with little chance of rain.
