Swimming competitively takes plenty of dedication and work ethic, especially when practices are held five days a week.
Daniel Bradley, a senior at Statesboro High and member of the Aqua Devils, has shown the dedication and attitude necessary to excel in the pool. That’s part of the reason Saturday’s season-best time of 23.98 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle had Bradley thinking about what might have been, as opposed to what was.
“I was kind of unhappy because the whole goal is to try not to breath the whole 50, but I took one breath and that breath might have cost me a few 100ths of a second,” he said.
That’s important since a time of 23.5 is required to qualify for the state meet held in February.
Still, Bradley’s performance in the St. Vincent Invitational four days ago was a success. In addition to his time in the 50-m, he also swam a career-best 53.8 seconds in the 100-m freestyle. That puts him 0.3 seconds away from states in the event, a goal this swimmer hopes to accomplish soon.
