Mr. James Jacob Barrs

Mr. James Jacob Barrs, age 69, died February 16, 2022 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA after an unexpected illness. He was born December 25, 1952 at Statesboro Hospital and grew up in Oliver and Newington, Ga. He enjoyed the many years he worked for Catalystics and Engelhard/BASF. He loved the outdoors and spent many days fishing and hunting. He was an avid gardener and grew some of the best vegetables around. He especially loved the times when his grandkids “helped” him in the garden. After many years he was able to purchase his very own brand-new tractor. He grinned ear to ear when he climbed onto that tractor for the first time. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was loved by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob Perley Barrs of Oliver, GA and Martha Nellie Howard Barrs of Statesboro, and three sisters Barbara Ellen Barrs, Mary Lovett, and Bertie Anderson.

James is survived by his wife of 39 years Rose Maria Barrs of Bulloch County, daughter Stacey Barrs Holloway (Keith) of Bulloch County, son James Brian Barrs of Chatham County, step-son Christopher Lee Mayes (Blanca) of DeRidder, LA, sisters Lavenia Cook (Richard) of Goose Creek, SC and Georgia Kathleen Cauley of Savannah, GA, a special nephew Keith Jacob Barrs (Sharon) of Statesboro, GA, grandchildren Nicholas Barrs of Statesboro, Michael Rodriguez of Seymour Johnson Air Base in North Carolina, James Brian Barrs, Jr. of Bloomingdale, GA, Brianna, Ethan, and Madyson Holloway of Bulloch County, and numerous other nieces and nephews. His smile, laugh and sense of humor will be missed forever by his family.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, February 19th from 5pm to 7pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 20th at 2pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA. with the Rev. Bob Crosby officiating.

Interment to follow at New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Lovett, James Adkins, Durwood Turner, Jamey Holloway, Frankie Godbee, and Terry Godbee.
