STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mae Dean Burns, age 81, passed into rest Friday, January 18, 2019, at her residence.
    The Bulloch County native was the daughter of the late John Henry and Birtha Jackson and received her formal education in the Bulloch County School System.
    Mrs. Burns was a faithful and devoted member of the Jordan Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the mother of the church and sung in the church choir until her health failed.
    She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ernest Burns; two sons, infant boy Burns and Walter “Sonny Boy” Burns Jr.; and a sister, Sarah Bostic.
    Mrs. Burns leaves to cherish her memories: her children, retired U.S. Army/National Guard Bobby (Laura) Burns, Kingsland, Ga.; retired U.S. Marine Corps/Army National Guard Gary (Mary) Burns, Statesboro, Ga.; retired Sgt. Maj. Wayne (Beverly) Burns, Ft. Mitchell, Ala.; Gregory Burns, Statesboro, Ga.; and Earnestine Burns, Statesboro, Ga.; her husband's children whom she loved dearly, Katie Mae (Arthur) Lemons, Atlanta, Ga.; and Leroy (Valerie) Burns, Boston, Mass.; her siblings, Ora Lee, Velma (Herman) Benton, Birt (Greg) Zellner, all of Sylvania, Ga.; and Margaret (Sam) Jones, Statesboro, Ga.; Bettye Key, Melbourne, Fla.; Willie David (Eva) Lee, Woodrow (Dorsey) Lee and Craig Lee, all of Sylvania, Ga.; and John Dewy Jackson, Tyrone, Ga.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Viewing will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, from noon until 7 p.m. There will be no viewing on the day of the service.
    The funeral service for Mrs. Mae Dean Burns will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019, in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc. with the Rev. Hardrick Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olliff Baptist Church cemetery, Clito.
    Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
