BROOKLET, Ga. -- Mr. Thomas Lamar “Tom” Rogers of Brooklet, Georgia, was born May 21, 1941, in Savannah, Georgia. He went to be with the Lord on November 1st, 2018, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Tom attended school in Chatham County, graduating from Groves High School, and later serving in the U.S. Army as a radar operator.
He was called into the ministry and served as pastor at multiple churches and later longtime pastor and school administrator at Trinity Baptist in Wrens, Georgia.
Additionally, Tom’s career of 18 years was working with the United States Postal Service in Savannah, Georgia. He worked as a mail truck driver, delivering to all Chatham County post offices. Tom retired in 2011.
Tom was united in holy matrimony to Earnestine Faye Holland on August 19, 1962, with 56 blessed years of marriage.
Mr. Thomas Lamar Rogers was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was an active member of Bible Baptist Church, where he served as an elder and superintendent of the school board. He loved serving the visitation ministry, teaching Sunday school and having chapel with the students and teachers. He greatly missed these duties when his health declined in early 2018.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Pinkney Lamar Rogers and Mary Louise Ethridge; a sister, Betty Jean Holton; a brother, Charles Rogers; two children, Thomas Rogers Jr. and Trina Faith; a grandson, Tommy Sapp; and a son-in-law, Warnell D. Sapp.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Faye Rogers; daughter Terri Rogers Wright, wife of Matt S. Wright and mother of Matthew Thomas Wright, Claxton, Ga.; daughter Traci Sapp, wife of Jeff McColly, Pooler, Georgia; a sister, Shirley Avant; and a brother James Rogers.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Dr. Max Alderman and the Rev. Joe Eason officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery in Nevils, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Cross, Rick Braddy, Brandon Braddy, Stevie Hart, Lee Driggers and Randy Colson.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 889 Highway 24, Statesboro, Georgia 30458.
The family would like to thank all those that showed kindness to our family from the men that built a ramp at the Rogers' home to each and every person that called, prayed or demonstrated love and kindness during this time of illness/injury.
