Betty Pauline (Johnson) Bunch
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Betty Pauline (Johnson) Bunch died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and friends, on October 26, 2018, at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility.
Betty was born on April 21, 1934, to Paul Hines Johnson and Minnie Brock Johnson in Statesboro, Georgia. Betty lived a meaningful, purpose-filled life in God‘s creation among God’s creatures and her way of life was perfectly aligned with God’s truth.
She was a loving and nurturing mother, a caring grandmother and great-grandmother, a loyal and faithful sister, a great aunt and compassionate and devoted friend.
She was an avid, knowledgeable gardener and grew beautiful flowers and plants that she delighted in; always sharing her plants and experience in growing them with others. She loved the land and was a good steward to her inheritance from her father.
Simplicity and beauty were always evident in her life. She was generous with all things, especially her deep faith that openly beckoned others to tap into. She was a member of Merrywood Baptist Church.
In 1974, she married Thomas Bunch and spent the most wonderful years of her life in Springfield until Thomas’ death in 1997, when she moved back to her family farm.
She was cared for by her loving family and special care givers, Teresa Jones and Ruby Perry.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters, Leone Alderman Johnson and Judy Carol Brack; and brothers, Herschel Monroe Johnson and John Paul Johnson.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa (Bobby) Campbell and Cindy (Bobby) Mooney, both of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Robert (Cindy I.) Mooney, Yancey (Whitney) Mooney and Elliot Mooney; three precious great-grandchildren, AdaGrace, J.E. Mooney and Emily Jane Mooney; her sisters, Shirley Allen and Carrie (Dave) Welter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The service was held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Rusty Manning and Chaplain David Colburn. Interment was held in Brannen Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Dickerson Mooney, Yancey Collin Mooney, Elliott Hines Mooney, Bobby Williams, Davin Keith Welter and Sammy Groover.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459; or to Merrywood Baptist Church, P.O. Box 962, Statesboro, GA 30459.
