Bulloch County Commissioners awarded a bid Tuesday for construction of a new community building at Luetta Moore Park on Blitch Street. Dabbs & Williams Construction will begin work on the project as soon as county workers complete grading, said Bulloch County Manager Tom Couch.
About a dozen companies submitted bids, but Dabbs & Williams came in under the wire with a bid of $391,000, he said. The bid was considerably under the proposed budget and will include construction of the building and parking lot, Couch said.
County crews have been working on the grading for weeks, with a few weather delays, he said. But if dry weather holds, the grading will be done soon and construction of the building can begin in a few weeks.
The new community building replaces one that was demolished due to poor condition. It will be around 3,400 square feet and will include a kitchen and two restrooms, Couch said. The open-space community room will lend itself to a variety of activities and gatherings sanctioned by the Bulloch County Department of Parks and Recreation.
In other county business Tuesday, commissioners heard a number of presentations, including one from Marcia Bentley with Upward Bound; a presentation by Bulloch County Parks and Recreation about the department's master plan and one regarding public transit.
Commissioners also reviewed an agreement with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service.
