Two Metter teens were killed Tuesday evening when the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed.
Harrison Eric Storey, 17, Aline Avenue, Metter, and Eric Michael Shackleford, 18, Hulsey Drive, Metter, were both killed around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class John Priest, who investigated the accident.
Priest said Storey was driving Shackleford’s 2000 Dodge Durango in a northbound direction on Canoochee Road Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, overturned and struck a tree.
Both  teens were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident took place about a half mile from Ga. 46, he said.
Neither teen was wearing a seat belt, and Storey was partially ejected from the vehicle, he said.
Priest said speed was a factor in  the accident, and alcohol may have also been a factor, as alcoholic beverages were found in the vehicle.
However, it has not been determined that the teens were drinking and that factor will not be determined until test results are returned, he said.
The accident remains under investigation, Priest said.
