Tips about drug activity on Pine Street led to the arrest Thursday of a man charged with possession of a sawed-off rifle as well as drug sales.

The Statesboro Police Department Impact Team served a search warrant at the Pine Street residence Thursday, said Madison Warren, Statesboro police community information specialist.

"During the search they discovered a quantity of marijuana, drug-related objects and a firearm — a short barrel rifle, sawed off below legal limit," she said.

Thomas Henry Johnson, 51, is charged with possession of a short barrel rifle, five counts of sale of marijuana, sale of cocaine, two counts of unlawful use of communications facilities, and five counts of distribution of controlled substance near a park or housing.

Johnson was also charged with possession/use of drug-related objects and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, she said.

He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he faces further court appearances.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
