Statesboro police arrested a third man Friday who they say was involved in the March 9 shooting death of a man at The Grove Apartments.

Jaime Francisco Perez, 22, of Market 100 Apartments in Statesboro's Market District, is charged with felony murder in connection with the drug-related shooting of Rincon's Deniro Arness Smith at the Brampton Avenue apartment complex, said Statesboro police Deputy Chief Rob Bryan.

Police arrested two others on March 17 who are charged in Smith's death: Jaden Thinh Le, 20, of Lanier Drive, and Michael Jay Williams, 24, of Sherwood Court in Rincon. Le is also charged with felony murder, while Williams faces charges of obstruction and giving false information. Additional charges may be filed, as the case is still under investigation, Bryan said.

Smith, 22, was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds during an altercation that Bryan said was drug-related.

"There was definitive evidence it (involved) a drug deal that went awry," he said.

Officers responding to a call about "shots fired" discovered Smith injured at the scene. He died from his wounds a short time later, Bryan said.

All three men are being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail, according to jail records.

Investigators from the District Attorney's Office are assisting lead investigator Statesboro police Detective Tommy Brown with the case.
