A simple shoplifting call turned into more Saturday when a Statesboro Police officer searched a suspect and discovered illegal drugs.
Officer Kyle Briley responded to Walmart regarding a woman who shoplifted a variety of items, including shampoo, fabric dye, batteries, flash lights and other health and beauty items, said Statesboro Police Major Scott Brunson.
Briley met with Walmart security employees, who detained Glynda Michelle Von Waldner, 50, Pike Road, after  watching her try to leave the store without paying for the items.
Once Briley began interviewing Von Waldner and officers searched her person, he found she also was in possession of methamphetamine and hydrocodone, for which she did not have a prescription, he said.
Among the items Von Waldner shoplifted were several items and ingredients that are used in manufacturing methamphetamine such as batteries and lye, he said.
Von Waldner also had scales and other drug paraphernalia on her person, Brunson said.
Briley took Von Waldner into custody, charging her with theft by shoplifting, possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance (hydrocodone), possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession/use of a drug related object.
She is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail, awaiting further court action, according to jail records.
