After three weeks of investigation, Statesboro Police arrested a man they said molested an 8-year-old girl.
Ronald Maurice Wilkerson, 28,  South Walnut Street, is behind bars without bond on charges of aggravated sodomy, statutory rape, aggravated child molestation, child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and sexual battery.
Statesboro Police Criminal Investigations Division Commander Capt. L. C. Williams said Det. Terry Briley began an investigation April 11 after someone reported  Wilkerson molested the girl.
"The investigation led to the collection of evidence and witness statements from several locations in Statesboro," he said.
When Briley identified Wilkerson as a suspect, he pursued the matter and located Wilkerson Wednesday, Williams said.
After being arrested, Wilkerson was processed and taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.
Williams did not specify whether Wilkerson knew or was related to the child victim.
This arrest follows a previous conviction of Wilkerson in Bulloch County of statutory rape in 1996, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Wilkerson also served time for a 1995 burglary conviction, also in Bulloch County. For those charges he served time in Hancock State Prison from Feb. 1997 to Aug. 2000, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections web site www.dcor.state.ga.us.
