      A man died after an early morning shooting Friday at Blakewood Apartments, and the woman who is accused of killing him is in jail.
      Gwen Elizabeth Coney, 39, Blakewood Apartments, told police she accidentally shot her boyfriend, Dale Byrd, 27, of the same address, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner. The shooting took place during an argument between the two, he said.
      After investigating the incident, however, which occurred around 4:20 a.m. this morning, Statesboro Police officers first charged Coney with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. However, after Byrd died at 3:12 p.m. Friday, charges were upgraded to murder, said Statesboro Police Major Scott Brunson.
      Byrd was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and then to Memorial Health for his injuries, where he died earlier trhis afternoon, Turner said.
      "The case is still under investigation," he said. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Keith Holloway with the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division."
