Small fire at theater ruled arson
Someone sets fire to bin full of 3D glasses

A night at the movies may have been a bit more exciting than usual Sunday when someone set fire to a bin full of 3D glasses.

The small fire occurred around 9:50 p.m. at Statesboro Cinema 12, said Statesboro police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren.

An employee “was able to drag the bin outside” and there was no further damage to the building. No one was injured, she said.

The arson incident is the fourth in about a month, but detectives have not linked the cases, she said.

In mid-December, Statesboro police and firefighters responded to the Statesboro Mall, where someone had set fire to a toilet paper holder in a ladies’ bathroom.

A few days later, a tow truck at a local towing company was destroyed by a fire that was intentionally set, she said.

The following week, a trash receptacle on Lanier Drive was burned, according to reports.

There were minor damages and no injuries in any of the arson cases. All incidents are currently under investigation, she said.
