In the spirit of Relay for Life, Statesboro’s STEAM Academy and other sponsors plan to “SMACKDOWN CANCER” Saturday with a fundraiser dinner show featuring American Premier Wrestling.

The 10th Annual SMACKDOWN CANCER event is “a family friendly” dinner show where you can enjoy two and a half hours of professional wrestling “while eating all the delicious Nonna Picci Pizza that you desire” right in front of the ring, said organizer Tom Caiazzo.

All proceeds go to TEAM SMACKDOWN as part of the 2019 Bulloch County Relay for Life, he said.  For pizza, drinks and the show, the cost is $19 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under.

The event will be held inside the Statesboro STEAM Academy at 1718 Northside Drive. Dinner seating is at 5:30 p.m. with a bell time of 6 p.m. Parking is plentiful and safe, he said, “and APW enforces its ‘Fan Code of Conduct’ to make sure that everyone has a comfortable viewing environment.”

There will be at least six matches, including a “main event” — a 2 out of 3 Falls match between Global champion, SCRATCH and top contender IRON MIKE. Also scheduled to appear are APW stars DAMIEN, Young DC, SPEEDY, BABY D, AVERY, AMOR, CUJO’ and many others, Caiazzo said.

The fundraiser is supported by American Premier Wrestling; D&R Intensive Car Care, Nonna Picci Restaurant, NAPA Auto Parts, and the Statesboro STEAM Academy.

“Nonna Picci is proud to be the food sponsor for this great community event,” said Johny Jo Mosley-King, the restaurant’s general manager. “APW runs professional and family-friendly events, and we will do everything we can to assist with this … as well as other community events that help benefit our great community.”

Other sponsors include The Hall Law Group; Eagle Clips &Tanning; Bulloch Janitorial and Supply; Mill Creek Septic and Sit & Sleep Mattress Superstore.

Also, D&K Towing and Unlocking; South Beach Tanning; El Sombrero Restaurants; RaDonna Sapp All-State Insurance; Brooks Financial Associates; Johnny’s Barber Shop; and SUBWAY.
