Newington police arrested one of two armed robbery suspects last week but still seek the second person involved.
Richie Shahghray McKnight, 19, of Rincon, was arrested Friday on charges of aggravated assauly and armed robbery, stemming from the Jan, 28 incident where two masked gunmen robbed clerks at the Newington Dollar General Store, said Newington Police choef Brian Barrs.
The two suspects entered the store just before closing time, wearing masks, and waved a gun, taking an undisclosed amount of ash, according to reports.
While several Dollar General Stores have been robbed at gunpoint recently, including some in Bulloch and Candler counties, it is yet unjbown whether rthere is any connection. A man and a woman – Gregory Rock and Brittany Gibson, both age 30 and from a Princess Lane address in Bulloch County, were arrested last week in connection to seven armed robberies, including Dollar General Stores in Bulloch County.
McKnight, who was denied bond, is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail on multiple other Effingham County charges, he said,
According to Effingham County Jail records,. McKnight faces charges in Effingham County including two counts of armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, possession of tools for commission of a crime, and possession of a knife or firearm during commission of a crime.
“The investigation is ongoing and more arrest are expected,” Barrs said.
