A tour of the Scarboro Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery this Saturday, April 20, will continue the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center’s series of monthly tours of African-American cemeteries.

Participants will meet at the Willow Hill Center in the historic Willow Hill School, 4235 Willow Hill Road, near Portal, at 8 AM and travel to the cemetery.  The “If These Cemeteries Could Talk” series is part of the center’s events marking the national Commemoration of 400 Years of African-American History, 1619-2019.

Dr. Alvin D. Jackson, president of the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center board, leads the tours the third Saturday of each month. This will be the third in the series, after tours of the Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in March and the Old Mount Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in February.

Scarboro Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery is at 21 Pecan Grove Road, Portal. For more information, call Dr. Gayle Jackson of the Willow Hill Center at (912) 800-1467. This event is free and open to the public.
