A woman told police she was raped, but it wasn’t true, said Statesboro Police Det. Tommy Brown.
Jemica Nicole Evans, 18, Perkins road, Millen, ended up behind bars Friday after police determined her report of being raped by a man she knows was false, he said.
Evans, charged with false report of a crime and false statements and writings (a felony) told police Feb. 20 she visited a 24-year-old Statesboro man she knew at his apartment, and they were talking when “ he forced himself on her,” he said.
But when interviewed by investigators, the man said the sex was consensual, Brown said.
Further investigations revealed evidence that Evans’ statements were not truthful, and witnesses supported the accused man’s statements of denial.
Evans’ “statements and actions were not consistent with a person who had been raped,” Brown said.
On the same date she claimed she had been raped, Evans left the doctor’s office where she had been treated, and went home. But later she “ came back to Statesboro, riding the streets after midnight, hanging out with her old boyfriend and had not showered, was wearing the same clothes,” he said.
Evans also did not “comply with or accept” efforts to provide her with medical needs offered to a rape victim, he said.
Investigation also proved she had experienced previous sexual encounters with the man she accused of raping her, he said.
Evans was taken to the Bulloch County Jail where she later posted a $3,000 bond and was released to await further court action, according to jail records.
