Pedestrian struck by vehicle in serious but stable condition

    A man struck by a vehicle early Friday morning near Georgia Southern University remains in serious but stable condition.
    Nicholas Ward, 22, of Rolling Woods Trail in Fayetteville, was walking on the sidewalk next to Georgia Avenue just before 2 a.m. Friday when a Toyota Camry, driven by Benjamin Blake Williamson, 21, of Jasmine Road in Dublin, left the street and struck him, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
    Williamson’s car struck a yield sign as well as Ward, and afterward, continued into a small patch of woods, where the car struck several trees, reports state.
    Ward was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where he remains in serious but stable condition, GSP Trooper Carl Hutchinson, who investigated the accident, said Tuesday.
    Williamson is charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and open container. Other charges may be pending.
