Bulloch County Superior Court Judge William T. Woodrum denied a motion filed to have another judge recused from a child molestation case, said Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney Michael Muldrew.
Lovett Bennett Jr., the attorney representing Bulloch County teacher Amy Bass Jackson, accused of molesting a student, filed a motion Aug. 4 asking that Bulloch County Superior Court Judge Gates Peed be recused from hearing the case .
Jackson, 35, Pebblestone Court, is charged with aggravated child molestation, child molestation, statutory rape, sexual exploitation of children, computer pornography and child exploitation, and unlawful disposition of material to minors. She is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male who was her student. She resigned from her position as a Bulloch County teacher during the investigation and is currently being held without bond in isolation in the Bulloch County Jail.
Reasons for seeking recusal is that Peed’s sister is married to a man who is a business partner of Michael E. Jackson, Amy Jackson’s husband, and Michael Jackson reportedly shared information about the case with his partner, Peed’s brother-in-law, Bennett contends.
An arraignment hearing for Jackson was originally scheduled for Aug. 31. There had been no date scheduled for the hearing Monday, according to the Bulloch County Clerk of Courts office.
