Moore, McCollar advance to mayoral runoff
Incumbent Joe Brannen finishes third
110513 ELECTION 01
Incumbent Statesboro Mayor Joe Brannen, right, looks over the results from early voting at the Bulloch County Courthouse Tuesday night. Brannen's term as mayor will end in January as Jan Moore and Jonathan McCollar finished first and second in the final tally and will face off in a runoff on Dec. 3.
Four candidates entered and, after Tuesday, two remain. In a race to determine the next mayor for the city of Statesboro, no one candidate received the 50 percent plus one amount of votes required to secure the office, resulting in a runoff election to be held next month. When all ballots were tallied, Jonathan McCollar and Jan Moore emerged as leading vote-getters, and will again compete for the mayor's chair in an election Dec. 3, according to unofficial results released by the Bulloch County Board of Elections and Voter Registration.
