Metter Police search for escaped inmate
Man reportedly walked away from a work detail on North Lewis Street

As night fell Thursday, law enforcement officers seeking an escaped inmate had not yet located the man who walked away from a Metter police work detail.

Brett Michael Sellars, 25, was with a detention center work team on North Lewis Street in Metter when he walked away from the group around 1 p.m., according to lookouts posted on the Metter Police Department's Facebook page.

Neither Metter police Chief Mack Seckinger nor interim Candler County Sheriff Blake Hendrix were available for comment Thursday, with police and jail staff stating they were each on the scene with the search party.

Sellars may be wearing a brown detention center jumpsuit, or he may have abandoned the jumpsuit and could be wearing white thermal underwear, or "long johns," according to reports.

He is a white male with dark hair and a close-shaved haircut, bearing a slight mustache, according to a jail mug shot posted by Metter police. He stands around 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs around 140 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metter police at (912) 685-5437 or the Candler County Sheriff's Department at (912) 685-2568.
