Statesboro City Council has called a special meeting in the council chambers at 9 a.m. Tuesday to request a special election to fill the vacant District 5 council seat. Travis Chance, who represented District 5 for more than 10 years and was the longest-serving council member, resigned last Tuesday effective at 5 p.m. He plans to move with his family later this year to a home they are renovating outside the city limits. By resigning now, he was cleared to sign up as a candidate for a Bulloch County Board of Commissioners seat during qualifying week, and did so Wednesday.
