A man tried to rob Statesboro's CVS Pharmacy Wednesday night, but clerks citing security measures thwarted his attempt, police said.

Statesboro police hope the public will recognize the offender from surveillance video still shots, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, a black male wearing a white shirt, navy blue hat with the letter "S" on front, black pants and dark shoes entered the drugstore with a handgun drawn, pointing it and demanding money. He weighs around 140 pounds and stands around 5 feet 10 inches, according to a Nixle alert sent out early Thursday morning.

"The two victims, both employees of CVS, were in the cash register area of the pharmacy when (the) unknown male entered the store and demanded money from the register at gunpoint," Turner said.

When the employees told the suspect they were unable to open the register due to security measures set up by CVS.
"He left the store in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported from this incident," Turner said.

The Statesboro Police Department posted still frames from the video on its website and Facebook page in hopes citizens will be able to help identify the suspect, he said.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact Statesboro police Detective Ben Purvis at (912) 764-9911.
