Police are seeking a man who fired several shots at a group of people early New Year’s Day.

Warrants were issued for Myron Eugene Johnson, 26, of Florence Avenue,  Statesboro Police Community  Information Specialist Madison Warren said Friday.

Around 3:15 a.m. Jan. 1, shortly after the closing of the Elk’s Lodge on James Street, Statesboro Police Department Patrol Bureau officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired.

“Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene and began the search for the potential victims. Fortunately no one suffered gunshot injuries as a result of the incident” she said.

But there could easily have been serious injuries or even fatalities.  Officers learned Johnson ”fired shots at a group of individuals and into a house where two children were present, the children being located only a few feet away from where the bullets struck” she said.

Police issued warrants for Johnson’s arrest on charges of seven counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Johnson is also wanted regarding charges involving a 2017 kidnapping investigation Warren said.

“The United States Marshals Service's Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is actively in search of Johnson based on these warrants. ‘’

Anyone with information on Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Jared Akins Statesboro Police Department at 912-764-9911.

“Never try to apprehend a fugitive yourself,” she said.
