A Columbus man was killed Saturday afternoon in Screven County when he failed to stop at an intersection and pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler.
Rev. Joseph Roberson, 57, of Columbus, Ga., was driving west on Poor Robin Road when he approached the intersection of Ga. 21, and failed to yield to the stop sign, said a Georgia State Patrol  Post 21 dispatcher, reading from trooper's preliminary reports regarding the accident.
A loaded 1998 Freightliner tractor trailer rig traveling southbound on Ga. 21 struck Roberson's 2009 Honda Accord. The truck driver, Jeffrey Wayne Dochery, 26, Abram Street, Sylvania, was not injured in the crash, reports stated.
Preliminary reports did not detail whether Roberson was pronounced dead at the scene, but reports indicated he was not transported to a hospital.
    The accident remains under investigation.
Roberson was the district superintendent of the United Methodist Church association that covers the Statesboro area.  He and his wife Beverly have three adult children. Roberson had only recently taken the position as district superintendent about six months ago.
