Man charged with raping two-year-old

A Statesboro man was arrested Wednesday on charges he raped a two-year-old child.

Chandler Zackeary Powell, 25, Sandy Way, faces charges of rape, aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, said Statesboro Police Deputy Chief Rob Bryan.

Police were notified Wednesday of the possible child molestation incident at a Sandy Way residence, he said.

After responding to the call, “Officers of the Statesboro Police Department and Detective Kevin Weatherly of Statesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau began an investigation,” he said. “Through the investigation, Chandler Zackeary Powell was found to have had inappropriate sexual contact with a two year old female.”

The toddler was transported to the East Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment, he said.

Powell was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.

Bryan said the case remains under investigation.
