A man who police said pawned stolen property is behind bars on burglary charges.

Statesboro police officers arrested Carsidous Demond Evans, 18, of East Jones Avenue, "after he pawned property that was reported stolen," Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

Evans "took a 24-inch flat screen television" during a burglary that occurred Friday, Sept. 27, sometime between 12:30 and 1:50 a.m. on Mikell Street, he said.

"Through further investigation Det. Ben Purvis learned that the stolen television was pawned at a local pawn shop by Evans on Sept. 28," Turner said. "Det. Purvis released a (lookout alert) for Evans who was then seen and apprehended by Statesboro Police Officer Travis Kreun" Tuesday near South Main Street and East Jones Avenue.

Evans was charged with theft by deception as well as burglary. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await bond.
