Let me start off by saying that I have never written a letter to the editor before. I had never written, e-mailed or called my Congressman until very recently. I used to not pay much attention to national news and never have been very engaged in the political process…until now.
I am a thirty-something, stay-at-home mom who is finally “awake.” I remember as a child I used to have a hard time waking up in the mornings and my Dad would try to rouse me with a freezing cold washcloth that he would wring out over my head. This was an effective strategy to be sure. Not only did I wake up, but I woke up angry! That’s exactly how I feel now.
The health care debacle that culminated in the partisan passage of the Senate Bill was just like that freezing cold washcloth that sent shivers down my spine. I am awake and fightin’ mad and those of you who know me can attest that it takes a lot to make me mad.
I agree with Vice-President Joe Biden that the healthcare bill isS historic. However, I think that it is a big deal because it is so historically bad for our country. I’m not going to go into all of the reasons why it is so bad here because I don’t have enough room.
Let me go beyond the bill itself and talk about the motivation behind it. I contend that it never really was about health care. When introducing the president at the bill signing ceremony (before dropping the “f-bomb”), Biden bragged that they had succeeded in charting a “fundamentally different course” for this country. On the campaign trail, Obama often spoke of “fundamentally transforming” America. If those words coupled with the nationalization of the health care, student loan, financial, and automotive industries don’t send icy shivers down your spine then you need to start doing some research.
That’s really my purpose in writing this letter. I want all of the thirty-something, busy parents out there to wake up! Obama was not kidding when he said he wanted to fundamentally transform this great nation. He laid it out as plain as day during the presidential campaign.
I want you to start paying attention now to what is happening to our country. I know that you are busy, but you have got to make time for this, like right now. If not for your sake, than do it for the sake of your children. I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist, but honestly, I am alarmed.
Do your own research about Obama’s agenda and investigate the people he has surrounded himself with. If you are like me, it has been a long time since you have studied American History and Civics. I’ve had to refresh my memory about such things as Progressivism, Socialism, Communism, and Marxism and their effects on different countries around the world. I am asking you to do the same.
Watch various news broadcasts, read the newspaper, peruse online articles, reread the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, make sure you’re registered to vote and do it, not just in the big presidential elections.
Above all, I am simply asking that you inform yourself, draw your own conclusions, and act on those beliefs. It’s going to take people like you and me to stand up now and help steer our country away from its present course so that our children and their children won’t have to pay for our ignorance or apathy. I do wholeheartedly believe with one statement President Obama said during the bill signing ceremony: “People who love this country can change it.”
Why, yes we can! You’ve just got to wake up!
