Bulloch County Public Safety Director Ted Wynn announced Tuesday the promotion of Christopher Ivey to interim Bulloch County fire chief.
Ivey will be evaluated after a probationary period and likely be named permanently to the position, Wynn said.
Having been a volunteer firefighter with the Portal Fire Department for 12 years and serving as chief, Ivey was hired as captain of the county fire department earlier this year. Along with serving with the Portal fire district, Ivey also worked with Bulloch County Humane Enforcement for several years.
“Chief Ivey has devoted most of his adult life to public safety and the protection of people’s lives and property,” Wynn said. “He is to be commended for his past service and deserves the opportunity to lead, as he has demonstrated that capability in recent months. This assignment is effective immediately and will remain in place for the foreseeable future.”
