In October 1977, ground was broken for a Wendy’s restaurant in Statesboro. A little more than a year later, on Nov. 14, 1978, community leaders cut the ribbon as Georgia Southern students and the community packed the opening of Wendy’s. The new restaurant was in walking distance of Hanner, at the corner of Fair Road and Zetterower and was an instant success.
